Bah Humbug

Hello friendly folk. Wow, I did not realize it had been July since I last wrote here. Life has been happening. It’s a crazy life indeed.

One week from Christmas, and I finally put out a couple of decorations. Truly, this has been a season of Bah-humbug around here. Not even kidding. This is about it.

We’ve been in a season of transition for the past several months.

Our home before and now…We are starting to thin out. And we are waiting any minute for the call that tells us to move. When we last spoke to the company, they wanted us there January 1. Just in case anyone is paying attention, that’s just barely over 2 weeks away. Oh, and “there” would be 5 states away. No big deal. Pffpphtth. I spit in the face of anxiety and stress. Bring it on. Oh, and we haven’t started packing yet. {Excuse me while I go and freak out for just one moment.}

We are exhausted from the life of transition. Unemployment. Job interviews. More job interviews. And sitting on the edge of our seats waiting for the thumbs up to go or stay. Trying to eat up food we have without getting too much that has to be moved or donated. But still needing to eat and feed our family as frugally as possible…note that unemployment bit I mentioned up there. We are even down to the very last lemon from our tree.

But life and homeschool and awesome new developments are still happening around here, too. Handsome is learning lots of new things. He still loves to spell words from his favorite shows. He’s picked out a new favorite book: Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?ย He has started writing a little, too. He and I have learned to read the entire book in sign language and it has now become one of our most special bonding times before bedtime.

Recently I was walking through the house with my notebook and pen, making notes of the things we needed to sell or donate. Handsome kept following me around. I realized that he was carrying a writing tablet and stylus. I love him!

Handsome recently participated in the Special Needs Christmas pageant at our church. He played the lamb again. Here is what I had to say about that. The outpouring of comments and love he (we) received were overwhelming.

And finally, I just wanted to share with you that Handsome continues to keep us on our toes. He went missing again recently. Let me tell you, there is no panic that fills your heart with fear faster than your missing non-verbal child. We found him, safe and sound, right under our noses of course.

So, the fear then shifted from “OMG where could he be?!” to “OMG he’s taking a nap, he will never sleep at night again. One daytime nap can offset nighttime sleeping for months.” The struggle is real.

Truly hope that my readers have a lovely and special and Merry Christmas. I hope to update here again soon with more from the daily life of living withย autism and salvation.ย

Merry Christmas, and thank you for reading/following us.
